Francis Greenwood Peabody collection of Stroudwater, Me., papers, ca. 1700-1920.

Materials, collected by Peabody, relating to Stroudwater, Me., which was founded in the late 1720s as Stroudwater Landing ; and later became the Town of Stroudwater. This separated from Falmouth and in June of that year changed its name to Westbrook; in 1899 part was annexed to Portland.

Francis Greenwood Peabody (1847-1936) graduated from Harvard College in 1869 and Harvard Divinity School in 1872. Ordained in 1874, Peabody served the First Parish (Unitarian) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, until 1879. Peabody then joined the faculty of Harvard Divinity School teaching theological students Christian ethics, specializing in pioneer applications of religion to social problems.
